Welcome!
If you're looking to join the Backrooms Wiki, you're in the right place. This page will walk you through becoming a member in a few steps.
First, we're hosted on a larger website called Wikidot.com — this allows us to focus on running the site while Wikidot supports the technical backbone. You'll need an account for Wikidot.com, which you can use to join our site afterwards. Do you need to set up a Wikidot.com account?
Welcome to Wikidot.com
Wikidot.com is relatively old software, so it has some quirks. Here's what you need to know to make your account:
- You can't use an email at hotmail.com to create your account, nor can you use an email with numbers in the address. Wikidot has some sort of bug that prevents these from receiving confirmation emails, so create a new email instead.
- Wikidot's "Facebook Integration" feature is broken and you could ruin your Wikidot account if you use it. Avoid it!
- You should avoid usernames that could prove inconvenient later — some wikis you may want to join will have username policies, so avoid using profanity and don't impersonate others. You can only change your username twice, including changing it once and changing it back! Be careful.
Create Account
You're going to need to go to the main Wikidot.com site to sign up. You'll be brought back to the first screen when you're finished, so you can continue joining the wiki.
Welcome to the Backrooms Wiki!
Thanks for choosing to join the Backrooms Wiki! Assuming you're signed in to Wikidot.com, this setup will give you everything you need to know about joining the Backrooms Wiki so you can:
- Make comments, and post in our forums
- Rate pages on the site
- Create some pages on the Wiki of your own!
Read the site rules
Site Rules
- Be cool. — Treat all members of the community with respect, and don't be a troll or engage in online harassment. It's fine to disagree with members of the wiki as long as you're civil about it. Don't engage in prejudice or discrimination on the site.
- Minimum age. — You have to be 16 years old to join the site. Younger users can still browse the site, though pay attention to content warnings! If a user who is 16 or over is acting immaturely, this will lead to a ban regardless of their actual age.
- Keep it appropriate. — Needlessly provocative and erotic content is not allowed on any part of this site, e.g. pages or forums. Feel free to contact staff if you need advice on what counts.
- No roleplay. — The Backrooms aren't real. Don't act as if they are.
- No ban evasion or sockpuppetry. — If you attempt to evade a ban, it'll be extended.
- One user to one account. — If you need to make an alternative account for the site, contact staff first and we'll see if we can allow it. If your old account is hacked, we're going to need to ban the old one.
- Be careful when editing. — You can make minor changes to articles, such as fixing dead links or typos, or adding missing rating modules or page footers. Do not make major changes to the content of articles, such as adding references to your own work.
- No malicious voting. — Any voting of an article for reasons other than the content of the article is not allowed. Don't maliciously brigade people to downvote an article, but you can downvote based on your own judgement following a discussion of the article. You can place an upvote on your own article if you like.
- No coldposting. — Please read the greenlight policy before attempting to post a page.
- No plagiarism. — Don't pass off the work of others as your own. It's nice to take inspiration from others, and we are a free open media project released under creative commons. Don't directly copy someone else's work. Don't submit AI-generated work.
- Comply to the license. — Please read the image use policy before attempting to post a page.
- Respect staff. — if you see a user whose username is of a different color and has a star next to it, that member is a part of site staff. See the staff site's list of staff roles. If they call shots, follow them! Later, if you want, you can submit feedback to staff through the Backrooms feedback form.
- No raids. — Don't raid another site in the name of the Backrooms Wiki.
