Level 208 is the 209th Level of the Backrooms.

Description

Level 208 takes the form of an infinitely expanding soviet submarine littered with sidehalls and infinitely generated rooms. The currently explored areas are known as the "Red Line". The Submarine sits inside an equally infinite body of water.

The window hatches of the level show the sea, although lingering close by is strictly ill-advised as highly-violent entities have been reported to breach this level quite often. The Level seems to change its hallway and room structure the further you go, with every generated structure being completely distinct from one another. The level's atmosphere and overall danger levels increase the further you venture. At night time, the sea turns red, this is referred to as a Blood Hour.

Blood Hour

Blood Hour is the name given to the supposed "night time" state of the level. In this state, the entities inside the level become much more violent and the air is extremely dangerous to breathe without proper gear. Multiple sources note that constant scratching and banging on the walls of the submarine can be heard, almost as if outside forces are trying to rip the walls apart.

The Level has Various Special Rooms and Sub-Sections, only a few of these areas have been explored.

These include the following:

The Boiler Room

The Boiler Room

The Boiler Room is located on the northern side of the Level's halls.

The Boiler Room seems to be made of 2 separate components: the first floor which is shown in the picture, and the second floor which hasn't been explored yet due to the staircase and hatch leading to it having been completely melted together, forming an seemingly indestructable wall. Without its second floor, the room seems to be a 90m wide square room.

The boiler inside the room has phenomenal abilities, it seems to be able to boil objects up to 1500°C. Its is also known to have a small compartment that stores a fairly fresh supply of Firesalt.

The Storage Facility

The Storage Facility is a large storage bay 20m south of The Boiler Room. The Storage Facility contains a seemingly unending supply of survival essentials, such as squirt guns, almond water, and randomly scattered scrap and tool parts.

The Console Room

The Console Room is a special room located on the southern side of the Red Line Region. Its a Room containing a large terminal, so far the terminal seems to have a map of The Level's previously explored sections, as well as data logs containing notes and stories from previous survivors who have come across the room.

The Console Room also serves as an entrance/exit to the Level, as various hatches lead to other levels. 5 of these hatches seem to be in unusable condition, thus prohibiting entry to the levels they lead to.

The Console Room seems to not be effected by The Blood Hour Event and entities seem to ignore the room entirely, making it the #1 safespot in the level. its been noted that various whispers can be heard from the broken down hatches, the reason for this phenomena is unknown.

Bases, Outposts, and Communities

Skunkrats

"Skunkrat" is the main term used to refer to the Bandits inhabiting Level 208. They are vicious, scavenging the level and killing any unaligned survivor they come across. They aren't a unified faction but work together to stay alive. Many sources have reported that the Skunkrats have gone completely insane, feasting away at any living organism they see in desperation, they also seem to have gotten used to the pungent air of Level 208, their bodies have become fragile but theyre still a big danger.

The Red Brigade

Emblem of The Red Brigade

The Red Brigade is a group of Militaristic Survivors who exclusively live in Level 208. They seem to have the goal of dissolving the Skrunkrats Population. So far they've been pacifistic towards Random Survivors, tho they don't seem to ever directly aid them, give them supplies, etc.

Info gathered from a ex-brigadier suggest that The Red Brigade was formed after an argument between 2 Skunkrat sub-groups that became violent towards one another. This prompted one of the teams to branch off and travel to various levels, gathering people, supplies and returning back as the Red Brigade. While the legitimacy of this story is questionable, its the only info we've got regarding the origins of this cryptic militia.

Entities

The Basic Entities of this level include the following: Smilers, Skin-stealers, Hounds, Adult Facelings and Deathmoths.

The Adult Facelings of Level 208

The Adult Facelings in this level seem to take on the appearance of Soviet Soldiers and Navy Personnel, the Navy Personnel are harmless while the Soviet Soldiers are extremely volatile and pursue anyone they see. When docile, they seem to act like regular Navy and Military men, completing duties around the submarine and even having meetings.

The Infestation

The Infestation is a large blob of organic matter blocking the Eastern Wing of the level. Its highly radioactive and toxic, with reports of many survivors sustaining fatal injuries upon interacting with it. The origins of this infestation are unknown at the moment.

The Infestation seems to effect the entire structure of the level, it absorbs any organic matter it gets into contact with and each time it absorbs matter its radioactivity, toxicity and volume increases in ludicrous speeds. even though its volume gets bigger, it doesn't actually seem to expand further into the level, it simply clogs up the already infested section of the level even more.

Entrances And Exits

The level is fairly accessible, many levels lead to and have entrances from Level 208.

Entrances

  • If a Wanderer is crazy enough to go down into the Abyss in Level 7, they can find a hatch at 9 Kilometers that will lead them to Level 208's Console Room
  • Finding an Oasis with a small wrecked boat on it on Level 46.
  • Going through a door with a red star on it in Level 43.

Exits

The only known exits out of the level are:

  • A Wanderer can enter the name of a level they know of into the Terminal located in The Console Room to be warped there.
